HOW HAVE YOU COME TO LOVE and APPRECIATE YOUR BODY?
We live in a society that is largely defined by the external and truly learning to love and appreciate my body has taken a whole bunch of internal work. My yoga practice and my spirituality have really taught me to honor my body in a new way. The French philosopher, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, says, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Learning to treat my body as a sacred and temporary temple to an everlasting soul has really helped put things into perspective for me.
WHAT IS YOUR SOUL'S PURPOSE? YOUR UNIQUE GIFT TO THE WORLD?
This is a really big question and I feel like I am still on the path to learning this a little more every day. I do believe that our biggest struggles can be our greatest gifts and offerings to the world. If we can share our story in an open and honest way, perhaps it will help someone on a similar path. The medium in which to do this obviously varies. Sharing with others the body-based practices that have helped me heal and come back to my true self—yoga, mindful movement, meditation, and somatic-based practices—feels like my purpose right now.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON SISTERHOOD? WHAT DO YOU WISH OTHER WOMEN WOULD REMEMBER?
I wish other women would remember that we are all in this together. I am so lucky to have so many strong and inspiring women in my life who have taught me the importance of supporting and lifting each other up.
